THORNWOOD COMMUNITY GREEN
A group of local residents working towards providing an accessible green space for the community
Thornwood Community Green is a registered charity comprising residents of Thornwood who are commited to improving the quality of life for the wider community.
Our aim is to adopt an area of land adjacent to Thornwood Primary School and to utilise it as a community green space.
We are working in partnership with Glasgow City Council, who own the land, to take on a long term lease through the People Make Glasgow Communities (PMGC) program.
Our vision is to create a safe, welcoming, peaceful environment for Thornwood residents to enjoy.
There will be opportunities for growing, learning, participating in outdoor activities, playing and just being.
By creating a welcoming place, we hope to encourage members of the community to come together and socialise.
We still have plenty of work to do before our vision becomes a reality, but we are well on our way to acheiving our goal.
Proposed area for Thornwood Community Green
The proposed area for Thornwood Community Green is the area marked in red.
Entry would be from the central gates on Thornwood Drive.
As the area is within the boundaries of the Thornwood Primary School estate, access would be restricted to outwith school hours. This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the pupils and staff of Thornwood Primary.
Our long term plan is to install fencing to create a separate area, which would then allow for full-time access, but this will require significant funding.
Please note: We do not currently have permission to use the land.
Please respect the current conditions of access to ensure that our community project is not placed in jeopardy.
