January 2024 - Local community group Love Thornwood approaches Councillor Lana Reid-McConnell and Glasgow Eco Trust with a proposal for a community led project to develop the old blaes pitches adjacent to Thornwood Primary School for the benefit of the school and the local community.
March 2024 - Love Thornwood, Glasgow Eco Trust and Glasgow Community Food Network - Food and Climate Action Project collaborate to undertake a community survey to gauge support for the proposal. The survey went live on 14th March 2024 and ran for 8 weeks.
June 2024 - The survey results were published in a report compiled by Glasgow Eco Trust. There were 162 responses and 91% of respondents thought the proposal was a very good idea.
July 2024 - Glasgow City Council officers advise the community led project to initially focus on the smaller area of land to the west of the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) rather than the larger blaes pitches area. This would simplify site access and would provide an opportunity for the group to build capacity and resilience in a far more controlled way before considering whether to take on responsibility for the much larger area requested.
10th September 2024 - The first public meeting to discuss the proposal was organised by Glasgow Eco Trust and took place in Thornwood Primary School dinner hall. 34 people attended.
22nd October 2024 - A second meeting was held in the nearby church hall. 12 people attended this meeting. It was agreed that a working group of local residents would continue to meet on a monthly basis.
18th February 2025 - The decision is taken to apply to become a single tier Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) with the name Thornwood Community Green.
30th May 2025 - Thornwood Community Green submit an Expression of Interest to Glasgow City Council's 'People Make Glasgow Communities' (PMGC) program to lease the small area of land adjacent to the west of the MUGA.
13th August 2025 - Thornwood Community Green submit an Initial Proposal for Phase 2 of the PMGC application.
22nd September 2025 - Thornwood Community Green becomes a single tier SCIO with 6 trustees - registered charity number SC054593.
6th March 2026 - Our PMGC application passes the Initial Proposal phase and proceeds to the Engagement Phase.
17th April 2026 - With support from Glasgow Eco Trust, a second public engagement survey is launched to seek further input from the local community. The survey aims to get ideas and opinions on what people want to see happen atThornwood Community Green. The survey is open until 30th June 2026.
